GI recap:

The good; almost pitched a shutout on D...MUST build on that kind of effort for next year. Can you say DEX TEEN for OPOY...he ran wild and had blockers flyin' all night. It was a solid all around O performance which has become the norm for this years campaign (except Airport game).

The bad; Special teams could still use some better contain discipline and the D needs to improve at the point of attack so GI isn't in the bend don't break mode so often.

The VERDICT: Very refreshing WINDS OF CHANGE coming from the island. Solid TEAM effort to close out the year and a winning season..great job seniors!!!! Congrats boys....you definetly STRAPPED IT TIGHT ON FRIDAY NIGHT!

The challenge:
My only question is where are all the GI will only go 1-8, maybe 2-7 people??? How about GI has no pride or heart people??? Anybody want to make derogatory "winds of change" comments....truth hurts I guess. My only comment on the challenges above is....if you're bold enough to write write venom and hate on GI and were obviously wrong, at least be man/woman enough to take a bite of crow....just respond with "OK, I'll take my bite"!!

Anyone????....we'll see what kind of bloggers there are out there.

The refs at the SMCC game were a joke as well. But CC was clearly the better team.

Mr. HLF....you missed the GI pick this week, that's OK because your GI record was pretty close to actual....forgiveness is good.

Some comments to you....THANK-YOU for such a fantastic BLOG. Your comments have been great, your moderation terrific and for the most part, the participants have offered informative and enteraining quips.

Other than the GI followers (OK I'm guilty) you were one of the first that predicted something was brewing on the island...it just showed how impartial you are and the knowledge of the power of numbers and mental toughness for Football. Yes....it is possible to go from losing 20 straight to almost making the playoffs.

Thanks for allowing my rants, I can only hope they helped make the blog better. Get ready HL because GI is looking forward to just as much fun and excitement next year...GO DEVIS!

Are you keeping up with playoff results weekly on the BLOG??

If you want a laugh, go to the M.E.N. blog under the Airport- Flushing game, and read some of the comments there.

They are the best program in the HL. Did I mention that SMCC pulled a #1 seed in the playoffs!!!

GI... 5-4 good job! Nice win over a decent Ida team. To be back however you must beat Milan, SMCC or Airport. The combined record of the teams you beat was 18-27.... When winning 5 games isnt a big deal then maybe you can say things have changed. 5 wins issure better than zero.. I will give you that.

Winds of Change coming to GI. News Flash Dex Teen graduating. I congratulate you on the good season but as you say Teen should be OPOY and when he is gone what then?

Anonymous said...

(TO Sitofn) Where thinking how you just went 20 games with out a win.And will be waiting for you next year to return there.

Anonymous said...

Thank you players and coaches for a great year of Huron League football. Good luck to the teams advancing into the playoffs!

Craig M said...

Ok, I'll say it. GI IS NOT AS GOOD AS YOU THINK THEY ARE. They beat a horrible DPS team, the 3 bottom teams in the league and Ida. WHO DID THEY BEAT THAT WAS ANY GOOD?

I think that it is great that GI had a winning season after losing 20 games in a row. Now lets see if it is "WINDS OF CHANGE" or just a one year deal.

AND I WILL NEVER POST AN ASONYMOUS EITHER.

can someone post a link to the M.E.N. blog about the aiport/flushing game

GI beat all the teams they were better than and lost to all the teams they were worse than. All in all I am sure they will take that on the island.

Just checked the MHSAA, Airport will have a home game in the first round, and unless there is another weird drawing of districts it should be against Chelsea. This is big considering Chelsea and Airport is about an hour and 20 minute bus ride. I hope Airport plays with some serious pride and passion in that game, they have a good chance to be region champions. (The other projected region will have Melvindale, dealing without having one of their coaches, and if SMCC can hang with Crockett Airport can) So Airport, realize that your careers end with poor effortless play, and don't let it happen!!!

Other playoff teams, we know SMCC will be home forever and probably win until regionals at least. Milan didn't surprise me by making the playoffs, but they will lose unless they can pull off a miracle, which I'd love to see, get an Airport/Milan rematch for a district championship (Won't happen though, if you lose to Riverview you will lose to Adrian)

And all other teams, don't matter, you have to make the playoffs in order to matter. Maybe Riverview will be their next year, they showed signs of hope at the end of the year. But until then, that ain't happening.

Some last notes, offensive player of the year has to be Jodeci Mays, Defensive it'd be crazy not to give it to Welcoski from Huron (sorry I probably spelled that wrong) Coach of the year is Giarmo, you go 7-0 is this league and beat a good Catholic league school, it's hard to argue for anyone else.

Hopefully I can catch a bus ticket back to see some playoffs, until then, signing off from Chicago.

First of all you dont know what district the jets will be in so it is hard to say if they will have a home game. I can see them being 3rd in a district with no home game... it is possible.

Well Rusty, Here’s what the word on the street is. We will have to wait to see what the MHSAA does this year. All the predictions have Chelsea moving to a different region/district in division 3. It’s going to key around Gibraltar Carlson and Melvindale. Carlson is on the bubble to either play in Division 2 or 3 depending on how the selection committed feels and what they had for breakfast. Melvindale is on the bubble of division 3 and 4. Melvindale will most likely drop to 4 leaving a gap in three. Carlson may drop to that gap. The other issue is the MHSAA is not a big fan of really good teams paired up i.e.: Adrian vs. Milan and Airport vs. Chelsea. They would rather have Adrian vs. Milan and Airport vs. Carlson and then move Chelsea to the mid state region/district or the west state region/district. So let the debates begin, let the TV watching happen tomorrow night, Fox Sports Detroit, 7:00pm.

Melvindale is solid D3 as I see it

justafan said...

Melvindale has only 850 kids for enrollment which puts them between 3 and 4. The MHSAA has a way of taking all of everybody’s common sense and predictions and putting them out to dry. Come Sunday night we will be scratching our heads on some of the Regions/Districts they set up.

Huronleaguefootball said...

I've been doing a little math. It looks like Melvindale will be Division III.

Rustayo said...

Carlson will be the last team in Division 2, which is a bad break because Inkster ended up qualifying despite a brutal schedule (Remember last year?). Melvindale is even more solidly in Division 3, but they are beatable, teams can unravel around losing a coach, which we all know just happened. I didn't eliminate other playoff scenarios, but the most logical has Airport hosting Chelsea, and even with a weird drawing they have 80.444 pts, and that puts them ahead of alot of other D-3 teams. And since I no longer get MHSAA, I will be guessing as to what happens. None of you got 4.0's, and none of you know how the playoff points work. I do, and I'm doing my best to relay this, so just trust my info.

And once again, Airport, play with the passion I saw us play with last year against SMCC, and not the passion I saw against Trenton. You have the potential to do great things, and I want you guys to act like it. From the game I saw this year, you guys execute, but just to get it done, not with passion and the intensity of ripping apart the other team until 0:00. So take this message and look at yourselves in the mirror, and this week come out like you haven't all year. Everyone thinks you suck because you lost to SMCC and it'll bring you down in the playoffs. PROVE THEM WRONG!!!

Anonymous said...

I got news for you.. losing to SMCC does not mean you suck!!

"None of you got 4.0's, and none of you know how the playoff points work. I do, and I'm doing my best to relay this, so just trust my info."........ what the hell does this mean? the MHSAA came out with the point basis for the playoffs when you were in 42nd grade, young man. watch your ego there. there is not alot to figure out on the point system, we have been figuring it out long before you could count that high.

The MHSAA has a way of surprising people at the very end. I agree with you, the most likely match up will be Chelsea and Airport. Your right, this team has some talent, just like lastyears, Chelsea is a good team and Airport needs to be perfect. How long did you seniors sit in the middle of the field last year after losing to Trenton? You know how it feels, a good team that didnt live up to potential.

what happended to airpot? receive opening kick in a monsooon, punt, rain stops, flushing touchdown on broken, receive kick, monsoon starts back up, punt, rain stops, flsuhing 80 yard because pluff slipped in the mud, then airport whipped them the rest of the game outgaining them by over 225 yards. COuldnt score because they were called for penalty after penalty. 6 illegal shifts on plays that include no motion, how is that possible, 10 holds, which can literally be called every play to flushings 1 flag, baker tackled while ball is in the air on 4th down, no flag kills the drive at the flushing 35 with 3 minutes left. Baker burns his man deep, after making his cut to get by him the flushing db grabbed his jersey for the next 30 yards, the pass ends up just outta his reach, the flushing announcer wasnt unbiased, and said things like raider nation get up for your defense, and started a lets go flushing chant in the middle of the game, i cant explain it and have never seen anything like that before. It was as close as to a perfect homer job that you could have, something just felt wrong, the jets got cheated because they dominated a flushing team for 3 1/2 quarters but could show anything for it because dumb outta nowhere penalties kept killing their drives, REDICULOUS

DWILL said...

EXACTLY!!!! them freekin' refs were getting paid a loooooot or something because all of them pointless penalties called was just an extra effort to help get flushing into the playoffs. WOW! say what you want about calling us
'airport' people crybabies because we lost but this is too much. dont believe me? the proof shows right when the game was ended...them refs RAN off the field to the flushing side!
