Huron League Thoughts and Questions

I wonder how Huron League teams will fare in the playoffs this year?

Defensive Player of the Year?

Any good games this week?

I'm going to check out that GI/Huron JV game Thursday.

SITOFN, that sump pump stuff is killing me. Mine failed over the weekend. It wasn't pretty.

I have lost quite a few McNasty burgers this season. I officially know nothing.

I might check out that FR/SMCC game Friday.

Coach of the Year?

Best lineman this year?

Rivalry week outta be fun next week.

Are the defenses around the league better this year or are the offenses a little down?

I wonder how Huron League teams will fare in the playoffs this year? Not very well.......

Defensive Player of the Year? French kid from Aiport is all over the field smacking people!

Any good games this week? I agree, FR and SMCC is intriguing

I'm going to check out that GI/Huron JV game Thursday. GI JV has been handling people all year, do they run the spread also and have those type of players coming up next year?

SITOFN, that sump pump stuff is killing me. Mine failed over the weekend. It wasn't pretty. Shame on people for living on an ISLAND and not having a backup? Chris, sorry dude, that does suck!

I have lost quite a few McNasty burgers this season. I officially know nothing. On the other hand, someone out there now has a cholesterol problem!

I might check out that FR/SMCC game Friday. Just playing SMCC tough is not enough FR, you have to win!

Coach of the Year? Would have to say Adam Barber. He still takes a lot of beef for not being Redmond? Bottom line, Airport produced under his leadership!

Best lineman this year? Big guy from Grosse Ile, he's a beast. #77 maybe?

Rivalry week outta be fun next week. Thats why they call it rivalry week!

Are the defenses around the league better this year or are the offenses a little down? SMCC - worse, AIrport - MUCH better, Riverview - down, GI - a ton better, FR - better, Huron - down, Milan Down, Jeff - down

Reality check for all of the Thursday football lovers...Airport's seniors were 3-6 as freshmen. It is for development. Not for records.

Heck, Huron's current JV is 5-1 and it was 7-1-1 as a freshmen group, and the coach has 3 sophomores on varsity. Does anyone really believe that will amount to a hill of beans when those kids are on varsity? They will get outworked by the kids at Airport Riverview CC and GI and end up being a 4-5 varsity team. Just like every other "great group" to ever go through Huron.

Sorry about the sump-pump Chris....however I did warn everyone. (no, I'm not in the plumbing business).

You'll enjoy the GI/Huron JV game, lotsa impressive talent coming up the next 2-3 years.

Coach: Air
Lineman: Air team, haven't seen all players yet.
Defense: GI team, HUGE improvement. As for player, haven't seem them all yet.

Games this week: GI homecoming vs Huron on WDIV (if we get the votes...tell everone to vote!!)

Not looking to next week yet, that is a reciepe for failure. But I do agree it is shaping up to be VERY INTERESTING.

I believe the Airport Junior class has only lost to Bedford this year and tied CC in 8th grade. Last year (jv) lost the QB to varsity and went 9-0. This is one case where talent and performance carried through one year to the next. Good chemistry with this group.

Def. Player of the year so far French for Airport hands down.
Defense is better this season forcing offensive to step up and play better
lineman like GI # 77
Hoping to hear about some close games this week that brings out what teams really have

Anonymous said...

Coach of the year GI or Airport have to see how they finish..
Or Jeffersons coach maybe he will retire

Anonymous said...

#77 for GI is Vinnie Berardi...strong as an ox and has a 40 time in the high 4s.

I think that the defenses playing better this year is a product of the league last year. Many teams had their best players on offense last year it seemed with younger more inexperienced players on defense. I'm under the belief that those kids grew into better players and the graduation hit offenses harder. Obviously a blanket statment and I'm sure there are exceptions, but it has to have atleast some effect.

A few years ago the 5-2 Big Reds lost to the 1-6 Riverview squad under first year coach Stergalas. I would be intrigued to see if Milan doesn't give the Pirates all they can handle come Friday night.

#77 isnt running in the high 4'2, cmon now kid, stop boasting yourself

My record for past 3 weeks has been 10-2. I will try again for this week's predictions. Here we go:
GI - Huron, GI the better team, if they get up on Huron quick, like they can, Huron is going to taste another defeat. GI by 3 scores.

Milan - Riverview, Still can not figure out Milan, maybe most underachieving team in the league this year. If this game is played at the View, it should be illegal. Their field is terrible jsut like Milan is playing.
The View by 3 scores

SMCC - FR, SMCC will be very hungry, after giving away their game to the View last week, but the game is not in Monreo County and the Falcons will not stop the Rams power offense, however, their defense will not stop anyone either.
SMCC in OT by a score. (Game of the week)

Jefferson - Airport, Sorry, the Bears are done, AIrport wants home field for the playoffs.
The Jets by at least 3 scores

Good Luck to everyone this week!

Somebody please answer this question. Does Ryan Basonac have a yellow lamborghini??? If so, please explain how.

Game of the week will be Airport at Jefferson. It'll be much closer than everyone thinks!! HA!!!

I wonder how Huron League teams will fare in the playoffs this year?
--Thinking 2 will advance. But, no further...

Defensive Player of the Year?
--Curtis French HANDS DOWN!

Any good games this week?
--Going to the Jefferson vs. Airport game, outcome is predictable. BUT, as a Bear Alumni, hoping for some magic.

I'm going to check out that GI/Huron JV game Thursday.
--GI will win that game big time.

SITOFN, that sump pump stuff is killing me. Mine failed over the weekend. It wasn't pretty.

I have lost quite a few McNasty burgers this season. I officially know nothing.

I might check out that FR/SMCC game Friday.

Coach of the Year?
--Adam Barber

Best lineman this year?
--Said it before, and I will say it again, Keegan Sorenson. There's a reason Caleb and Justin are doing so well. Regardless of the "view fans" opinion...

Rivalry week outta be fun next week.

Are the defenses around the league better this year or are the offenses a little down?
--When you have a Rob White's passing threat, and the incredible RB's in this league, its hard to say "O" is down. But, sure there are the "league is down, nay sayers" that will disagree. Message, just cuz CC isn't dominating, doesn't mean the League is down. Great football taking place in the Huron League.

Based on who will be in districts, HL teams could do better than most think. According to snooze2you.com's projections (which are pretty accurate), Airport and Riverview will be in the same district. At the moment they have Adrian at Airport and Carlson at Riverview. Those would both be good (and winnable) matchups for the Huron League schools. Trenton would likely replace Adrian in that district if they finish 6-3. They have GI at Robichaud in division 4. EM

"Cmon now kid" The post said HIGH 4s. Im pretty sure everyone but you understood we were talking about a lineman and the poster meant 4.9 or 4.8. He's very good and very strong for his size but not a D1 corner back.

Were you even at the Riverview/SMCC game last week? Riverview WON the game. SMCC did not GIVE AWAY the game. I hate when people act like they know what they are talking about when they have no clue.

BINGO! You hit the nail right on the head. Most of these clowns dont even attend the games, and most of the posts are all based on "what my buddy said"!

yes View won the game. They kept coming back and had the answer at the end.

Is it crazy to think that GI could end up 5-4? The game this week vs Huron could be the season for the Red Devils.

Hey Bingo and Mutt:
I stated that SMCC gave the game away to RIverview based on a couple of things.
1. SMCC led most of the game
2. Riverview scored with less than a minute to go on SMMC home field at SMCC homecoming.
Riverview completed a pass on 3rd down and 20 to set up the winning score.
3. Yes I was at that game

Don't even act like Riverview was in control or something, because they were not. OK Bingo? Same to you Mutt (10/5/11 1:54 AM post)

You must have a great life Mutt, posting on the Huron League BLOG at 1:54 in the morning!

My apologies, its #66 Kellen Sorenson, in my earlier post. Also, the GI Lineman is talented, but, wasn't given the chance to show it against Airport.

Anonymous said...

Yes, it is crazy to think that.

GI will beat Huron and Dundee. They should beat Riverview BUT it's a rivalry game with good teams so you never know. Whoever wants it more will win it.

Defensive Player of the Year? French or Judd

I'm going to check out that GI/Huron JV game Thursday. Best game on the Huron League schedule this week. Ill be there.

Any good games this week? Nope

Coach of the Year? View, Air or GI depends how it all ends.

Best lineman this year? Bererdi from GI or that kid from View.

Are the defenses around the league better this year or are the offenses a little down? Def is up. Someone said it earlier. There were a lot of Juniors on Def last year. Now they are Seniors. The JV defenses were pretty good last year too so I bet that has something to do with it also.

Anonymous said...

bn...yes it's Crazy! GI is ONLY thinking about 6-1 right now.

The next 2 weeks after this week are just that....we'll play em when they get here.

Basonac is Jefferson's runningback. Does anybody know if the kid has the yellow lamborghini?

Anonymous said...

If GI loses to Huron, they could finish 5-4. But I doubt it. EM

Anonymous said...

1. SMCC led most of the game

---I can see the highlights now- SMCC Awarded Victory Over Riverview Because They "Led Most of the Game"

2. Riverview scored with less than a minute to go on SMMC home field at SMCC homecoming.
Riverview completed a pass on 3rd down and 20 to set up the winning score.

---Riverview went up twice in the fourth quarter. The second time for good.

3. Yes I was at that game

---So was I. Scoreboard.

Anonymous said...

Riverivew's field is bad but certainly not unplayable, but the school is vying for a new turf field. The outcome of the game will depend on the players not the field. Just play football

Anonymous said...

Riverview's field has no words to describe how bad it is. My son played there last Thursay and it was like playing in a mud pit. I would be embarrassed to call that a field. I really hope that they do something to improve that over the off season. Turf, sod, or rocks would be an upgrade compared to that.

Why does it matter what the kid drives? It doesn't make a difference if he drives a Lamborghini or a Flintstones car...this is a football blog.

Huronleaguefootball said...

I have a Flintstones car and sore extremely sore feet to prove it.

Someone showed me a pic (FB?) of him standing in front of it. Appears to be a Diablo. Also sightings around town. Heard he won it in some raffle. Its ugly yellow - paint that thing!
Of course I'm jealous....

I agree EM that it is doubtful that GI loses their last 3 games but it is more possible than people think.

-bn

Anonymous said...

Time to put this shoe on the other foot. Is it crazy to think AIR and VIEW wind up 5-4........it's JUST as possible as GI doing the same.

Not likely but possible....right bn and EM? You 2 are flagged for a "Silly" discussion....Only a 5 yard walk-off.

Riverviews field was torn up by high school freshman and JV games and 3 little league games after a week straight of rain. Wait, I forgot the kickball games too. So in 3 days time there were 5 football games and 2 kickball games played. There was some grass replaced WAY to late in the summer and the sod did not take. But, last time I checked, the boys were playing FOOTBALL on Friday nights, not kickball. So it is a little muddy, boo hoo.

Channel 4 will be on the island, please dont be rude and make them feel welcome. (that goes for you SITOFN)

The thing I hate about being on Grosse Ile is that I feel like my barn door is open. The way everybody who lives on Grosse ile stares at Outsiders. You could make a horror movie about Grosse Ile and there treatment of outsiders.

Grosse Ile is a sociologists dream.

Anonymous said...

To the 1:51 poster we want "outsiders" to move to the island. Take a look at http://www.oppgrosseile.org/ and you will see what a great, welcoming community that we are.

Anonymous said...

For a football blog - there are clearly some adults airing odd personal stuff.

For the 1:51 post - really? A sociologists dream? As a fairly new transplant to the area, I've observed that every community in the league looks at "outsiders" differently. I don't believe that this is unusual.

What I have witnessed in my first year reading this blog is grown-ups spending a lot of FB discussion time poking at CC and GI. Appears to be strange pulpit for personal angst.

Stick to FB folks. Our sons are all working hard!!!

11:55 post-"Why does it matter what kind of car the kid drives?" Are you serious??? How many 17 year old kids do you know that own a lamborghini diablo?? Or even adults for that matter? It's a very good question on this football blog! The kid plays football and drives the sweetest car in Michigan!

Anonymous said...

1:51...I interrupted a meeting laughing at that one! I'm just imagining a horror movie with ZOMBIES walking around staring at peoples crotches....flippin' hilarious I tell ya.

All kidding aside...we do have our snobs (who doesn't), but we're mostly good ol' boys and girls just like you.

We just happen to have no crime, great schools and churches, lots beer fridges in garages, Golf and boating galore, hunting and fishing (yes we do that sort of thing here on the "island"), stupid local politics, great club sports like tennis and golf, a silly newspaper and one KICK A*# football team this year.

That's why WDIV is coming, because we care about our little Island and it shows...PRIDE can sometimes be mistaken for SNOBBINESS....OK, I'll give you that but it's mistaken. You're our guests on this Island NOT OUTSIDERS. Lots of homes for sale....come on in, the waters' warm.

BIG TIME thanks to other HL supporters who voted.

Now sitofn, it is MUCH more likely that GI would end up 5-4 than airport. GI has the tougher schedule without a doubt.

No need to get defensive SITOFN, we all expect GI to be playoff bound after tomorrow. Btw it's nice to hear from you again, you haven't been on much since Airport-GI. EM

I'm glad you laughed SITOFN, that was sorta my intention. You didnt get in trouble in your meeting did you?

I will finally agree with you SITOFN. I've met a few people this past year from the "island". My kid plays sports with there kids. Some of the nicest people I've ever met and they definately love beer! Come to find out they're very wealthy and I would have never guessed it.

I would move out there not only because of the people but also because of the size of the deer!! (That you're not suppose to hunt............)

I wouldn't put your guarantee on GI beating Dundee. Dundee is 5-1 and the only loss being to state powerhouse Hudson. They've beat some pretty good teams. Should be a good week 9!

Anonymous said...

I just don't see how its relevant on here at all. If this was the "What Kids in the Huron League Drive" blog then it would make sense, but what you drive has absolutely no impact on how you play football. How don't you understand that?

Anonymous said...

Sorry that I think it's really cool that a 17 year old football player owns a Lamborghini (if it's true). I only asked on this blog if anyone knew if it was true. Besides, there's alot of pointless things that are discussed on this blog other than football.

So whoever plans on going to the Jefferson/Airport game tonight please let me know if you see the sweet car!!! Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Please name the "good" teams Dundee has beat?? They would have a losing record in Huron League. GI will roll over Dundee!

Driving a Lamborghini made Basonac a better football player. Seriously!! I'm not gonna stop about the Lamborghini until someone tells me if he has one or not. Sorry people!
