Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Milan didn't fool me this week.

What is going on at Riverview?

Grosse Ile sophomore QB Andrew Mitroka is a star already.

What is going on at Jefferson?

SMCC is probably a year away.

Will Flat Rock give Milan a game this week?

Airport is going to have to beat undefeated Milan or Tecumseh to have a shot at the playoffs.

Can Huron play that way two weeks in a row?

Is this still a coaches league? Gone are Redmond and Robb while Cisco and Stergalas don't seem to be the same.

Airport at best will be 5-4. Tecumseh will beat them by 30.

When/if Tecumseh and Milan meet, now that will be a showdown!!!

The kids at Riverview don't play with any emotion, they feel as if the skill they have is enough to win every game, evidently it isn't. The play calling doesn't help them to win either. Poor choices on the coaches, but this season, and that game, mainly rests on the shoulders of the players.

Airport will definitely be coming to play at Milan. A lot is at stake on both sides. I expect a really good game.

*Great call on the Milan game, they are one of the best stories this year. Dukes and the O-Line are dominating.

*That is a great question about Riverview, their backfield has incredible speed, and the QB has shown glimses of maturity. Confused.

*Maybe the anticipation of the Coaches retirement has gotten the best of the parents and has filtered down to the players. Jefferson has good talent, that appears to have lost the passion to play. Time for the change maybe?

*All SMCC is missing is consistency. They work hard, and their coach has the ability to out coach and maximize the talent. Think your right, maybe a year away, but, they certainly have offered some surprises this year.

*Other than Milan, the another increidble surprise this season is the week to week improvements taking place with Flat Rock. Coach is on to something, and those FR boys can hold their heads up. Their hard work is paying off every week. Fun to watch. Will be interesting against Milan.

*Airport has serious issue with their O-Line, which is very unique in Jet land. Potcova, McCormick, and Bernard can't carry the entire team in that style offense. Look for Coach V to change some thing this week. Jets schedule may allow them to make the playoffs still. LETS SEE.

*Wow, Huron brought it this week. What a great story thhis week. Thought that game would be alot closer, but, Huron brought their best under the lights. I am thinking that Huron can provide a couple more great performances. Solid squad.

*That is a great point to ponder about the Coaches League... Other than Jack, there doesn't seem to be that dominating Coach or Staff in the league. This year, the league seems to be in the transition stage, since Flat Rock, & Milan for the time being appear to have found a coaching recipie, but the remainder of the programs (other than SMCC & GI) are still searching or have question marks. Milan will be confirmed next year, since there are questions about the future, BUT, we all thought they wouldn't be tough this year, and LOOK WHATS HAPPENING. BUT, Hopefully the other programs resign themselves with the fact, that changes have to happen, so these boys can develop, and become of part of serious programs and the Huron League can advance in the playoffs consistently. Our area has incredible talent, its time again to have programs so they can develop, and provide still competition in the playoffs consistently.

Riverview's problem is playcalling. They do not use their weapons. They should be able to pretty much score at will by running those two quick backs around the end every other play. But for some reason Baker keeps sending them between the tackles. They aren't power backs. It makes no sense.

Riverview's problem is defensively.

and thats what doesn't sense, their d-line is big and strong enough to get their job done, but their main problem lies in the line-backing core, it seems they like to do what they want on the field, and abandon their assignment, which allows the big plays, as everyone saw against FR, Airport, and Jefferson. Their seemingly invisible secondary doesn't help the defensive cause either. no one on the team wants to make tackles either, all arms. as of right now, the rest of the season spells disaster, defensively, for the pirates as they get into the thick of their schedule.

From what I have seen and heard is that you can trap the heck out of the Pirates.

The way Airport is playing in the trenches right now, it's gonna be near impossible to beat Milan or Tecumseh. SMCC and GI were just more physical up front. EM

Watching tape of CC/ Huron game. Huron D/lineman dove at the offensive linemans feet of SMCC every play. That seems to me a real sissy way to play football. What happened to taking on blocks?

As far as the Coaches League, I think right now there is a lot of parity and no coach or program is dominating. Airport and SMCC were overrated based on past years and I believe this will continue.
Having new schools at the top and that changing from year to year is what the league is about. Very exciting Huron League season, whether your team is in the mix or having an off year. GO Big Reds, Go GI. Watch for Flat Rock next year.

SMCC could face some big sports changes. Their current enrollment has them just in Class C and Division 6 in football. Their enrollment is very close to moving them up a class. Good for them attracting more kids to the school and program, but could take a hit in their playoff plans.

A couple of thoughts:

SMCC's enrollment is up slightly but what is happening is that Class C is dropping. The cutoff this season is 449. That number used to be consistently around 490. The only sport SMCC may move up in would be basketball.

Nobody is happier for FR and Tommy O than myself. With that said, this team has 22 seniors. The Rams will most likely take a big step backwards next season and the year after. The football talent just isn't there right now. Could that change? Absolutley but the Rams are most likely 3 or so years away from building anything significant.

Huron league fan believes Airport & SMCC will continue to be over rated in the upcoming years. You have little clue.

Were all entitled to opinions. Everyone said look out for CC and Airport this year, well look what happened. I believe that will continue because kids that are dominating now(JV)(Freshman) will not be on Varsity. The young man from SMCC that moved to Vicksburg, great young man, 6ft 2, 225lbs. Dominated at lower level, just another kid on varsity while he was there. Just some thoughts.

Keep up the good work on the blog, even if some have no clue. LOL.

I think many of us thought Milan would rise under there new coach. I didn't think it would be this quick however. They did show signs in his first year.

SMCC and airport were overrated by one man one year. You act like there has been a trend. Both schools have great players coming up. Other schools are in the mix for sure but the falcons and jets will be there.

SMCC and airport have 13 of last 17 titles. Is it possible to over rate them?
