Harper Woods Chandler Park @ Grosse Ile

Chandler Park (6-2) is coming off of a 44-6 loss to Warren De La Salle while Grosse Ile (8-1) beat Detroit Henry Ford Creative Studies 41-0. These two teams have never met in football.

This is only the fifth season of football for the Eagles of Chandler Park but this is the fourth consecutive year of qulifying for the playoffs.

Chandler Park is led by 6'3" 185 lb three star University of Michigan recruit Csonte' York. York has the ability to dominate a game from his WR position or on special teams. Defensively the Eagles are led by 6'3" 220lb DE Andre Turner who has committed to Western Michigan.

Chandler Park is a program that will continue to get better over the years as many of the eastside Police Athletic League players continue to filter into the school in Harper Woods.

Grosse Ile will continue to run the ball from the spread while being opportunistic with the pass. Defensively the Red Devils must tackle well and try to limit the big plays of the Eagles.

This is a scray game for Coach John Bodner. His Red Devils don't boast any Division 1 talent and are a relatively small team but look for the home team to send a message that you must put eleven players on the field at one time. Pick: Grosse Ile 28 Chandler Park 19

Huron League Discipline over Charter School Individualism. That's what wins for GI. Does anyone remember Detroit Douglass vs GI Last year? Samething, different year.
Chandler Park will have way more talent, but GI will win because they are disciplined

I have watched film and Csonte' York will cause fits if it ends up being a air game. This kid seems to catch every ball that is remotely even close to him. Great speed, and vertical abilities. GI's small size may come to to haunt them there. Not as worried as much with Andre Turner and as mentioned you do need to put 11 on the field but two D1 ability players makes up for a lot. I still see GI giving the Eagles fits with the spread but feel that they can grind this one out with it O and the D will have to be spot on...Score may be closer than projected but still a GI win.

What happened to SITOFN?? I really miss his meaningless comments about the 7 dwarfs.

Don't degrade FD like that. They played a great game and GI beat. Their coach completely blew the game for those kids. Yes GI "pulled out" the victory but FD played their butts off. And if the GI people cannot admit they won by some divine intervention then you did not watch the game. All FD had to do was take a knee and it was over.

Not me, his comments are stupid and add nothing.

I will somewhat agree with the discipline comment including GI and the Douglass win last year. It was not complete divine intervention. The Discipline of players like White, Kish, Nellinbach, Christan, Berradi, Alongi, Cuddy, and others that paved way for the win.

Yes we did watch the game and GI made several huge plays all game long with to stay in the mix until the bitter end.

If you did see the finish you know that Kish played back deep and then intercepted the ball with little time left and yes the next play Kish then ran it for a TD. It was a made for video highlight finish. We took control of the other teams mistakes and that is how games are won.

So, Yes they could of taken a knee, but even the coach did not have the discipline to pull back and have his team take a knee.

I would not take away from GI's win last year and hopefully this year we can move through the playoffs in the same fashion.

"Yes they could have taken a knee" is all I needed to hear. FD wins if they just do that. You were fortunate PERIOD to win the game. So don't mask that by saying your players were more disciplined. Just stop with that. You were lucky the coach was an idiot. ANY OTHER coach and you would have lost. And you know it

...and I'm not taking away from GI's win either. It's just good practice to call it what it really was and not put down the PLAYERS of FD because it was the coach who blew it.

GI will handle them.
Tomorrow it will be clear who the best CB in the area is. He will keep the D1 prospect in check (PS... he is coming back next year)
It will also be a message for the next opponents that if you stop the RBs the QB will run you down. (PS. he is coming back for TWO more years!!!)
Oh ya...... I;; put a buck on it that GI's sack machine gets at least 2 on the other D1 prospect.

Good luck to Air and CC. Lets keep this playoff run alive!!!!

To the dude that made all the GI vs Douglass comments...... YES it was a STUPID call by the Douglass coach. But BECAUSE the GI players are so disciplined they were still in the mindset to believe they could and would win that game. That is what their coach meant.

PS.... they still neeeded to score after that interception.... and they did. WHY...... their coaching staff has drilled it into them from freshman to senior.... you always have a chance to win NEVER STOP PLAYING!!! Bodner runs a great program, do not take away from what he does because someone else makes a stupid call.

I guarantee Bodner agrees that was a STUPID call to pass then. But guess what..... They did! And if you didnt realize it that interception didnt win the game. The run after it did. That has NOTHING to do with the interception. It has to do with the coaching staffs discipline and the players will and belief they can win (where does that come from....) So PLEASE stop acting like it was all Douglass that gave them the win. They had multiple D1 players and they lost to a GI team that WANTED it more and took advantage of a STUPID coaching mistake.

Enough of last years team and enough of Douglass. Move on....

These are the comments from Chris just after the GI/FD game last year.

"I can't believe that Douglass went for it on 4 and 3 on their own 9 yard line with 3:10 to go in the game and nursing a 22-14 lead.

I can't believe the ref threw a flag on a 60 yard scoring run by Douglass when the Red Devils stacked the line of scrimmage with 9 guys yet the flag occurred 12 yards down the field.

I can't believe Douglass threw a pass that resulted in an interception on 1st and 10 with 2:03 to go in the game while hanging on to a two point lead."

So if you dont believe they were LUCKY to win then you are foolish. "CHARTER SCHOOL INDIVIDUALISM" was dumb to say I agree.

What is with all the comments about "last year". Come on, lets get some comments about this match-up. Frankly, the big DE makes me more nervous than York. Do these two guys play both ways? I bet they do. GI has to get to the QB before he can throw the ball, the o-line has to contain this big DUDE on the end and they have to tackle well and cleanly. I think, if GI can stay in the game the 1st half, their speed and conditioning will prevail and they can win this.

Grosse Ile is extremely small but quick. My concern is that Chandler Park matches their quickness and then GI's size or lack of it comes into play.

GI will be able to run the ball IMO. 28-20 GI

Yea chris we been hearing that every week from our opponents! And 8 of 9 of them were wrong so don't feel bad.

There not just small but simply quick. Your comment is way too shallow. Yes they are small and quick. But they're also aggressive, smart, create and limit turnovers, play as a team, limit penalties, etc, etc. GI is/does all the things you expect from a good team. Size does matter! But everything mentioned herein matters more.

I picked GI to win. I just think there could be some problems. The Chandler Park coach Jergovich is no push over. The guy can coach.

Appreciate the scoop on this team.
Great to be able to see a summary on the competition. Hopefully Grosse Ile can make a long run, would be great for their program.
Hope they stick to what got them this far. Some schools change it up in the playoffs, stick to what your good at.
Good Luck GI !!

Hey Chris, when you get to the playoffs everything from admission to program costs is regulated by the MHSAA. They also get all the money. Home team only gets concession.

That's probably why the Gatemaster wouldn't allow a CP parent in the game with his half finished bottle of water. Good thing they didn't see my peanuts hidden in my jacket.
