All Decade Team

This may be a stretch but somebody suggest I do an all decade team (2000-2009). I am willing to give it a try but will need some help. Please submit your thoughts I will take them into consideration. Give me some time but I am sure I can give this a a good effort.

Eric Redmond - Coach of the Decade

LOL @ Eric Redmond as the coach of the decade. Are you for real? There is no question here - Giarmo has to be the coach of the decade. I am not even a SMCC fan. He went 5-4 against Redmond in 9 years, but he was 89-29 overall and had 19 playoff wins with 2 trips to Ford Field and 3 semi-final appearances. If you want proof of these stats, go to www.michigan-football.com. Redmond had 6 playoff wins in that period, FYI.

While I do agree that Giarmo would be coach of the decade but lets not cast aside Redmond so fast. He turned around one of the worst programs in the state of Michigan in just a couple short years. He did a fabulous job.

Redmond has 82 in that period. Take into account that SMCC plays far easier opponents in the playoffs than Airport too. Also take into account what Airport was prior to Redmond compared to what SMCC has in its history. Easy choice here. Redmond > Giarmo. Jack is a great coach, but not where Redmond is.

Lonnie Pugh DE GI...6'7" shot puts for MSU

Anybody that knows anything about football and isn't a fanboy of any one team in the Huron League will tell you Giarmo outcoached Redmond almost every year. I'd also like to throw in Ted Tackett and Josh Kaltsas. Absolute beasts on Riverview's 2004 team. And from Airport - John Slayton, Jim Duffy, Jeff Ritter.

2004 Grosse Ile State Semi-finalist:

Danny Boisture - TE - Set school record in receiving yards...great hands...caught anything thrown his way.

Blake Smolen - WR/RB - Set school scoring and receptions record...1st team all-state...went on to be 2x All-American at GVSU.

Sean Matela - OL - Played OL in the MHSAA All-Star game....1st team all-state...played football at Northwood/WSU

SMCC picked up Lansing Catholic week 9. Nice matchup.

Maybe if Airport played somebody in a non league schedule that prepared them for the teams they play in the playoffs they'd have more post season success. Sorry for expecting you to be able to compete against schools the same size as you.

9:08 PM poster I would agree on the 3 from the 2004 dream team...Actually that whole team was great!

FYI-
Kish broke Smolen's scoring record a couple of years ago...

Call me crazy but I think some of the graduates as of the past couple of years should be at least in the conversation. Like Rob White/GI then you have you have to think Trey Bishop/Air even though he was a few years before that. And honestly even though I am from Huron I was close around the FR football program and the things Michael Blosser and Colin Knoch did for that program at least puts them in the CONVERSATION. - Huge Huron League Fan

Jimmy Stines FB, Jim Perry WR, Jesse Hoskins QB/S, Aaron White TB-all from Milan at beggining of decade have to be in consideration

As well as David and Thom Box rom more recently

@ 9:33 poster

I believe Kish finished with 24....Smolen 30....Both were two great players...I hope Kish has a great career at Wayne State like Smolen did at Grand Valley.

GO GI

Kish running track?

No track for Kish - http://www.wsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5508&path=football

Kaltsas from Riverview was a beast. Did he play college ball? My all decade running backs would be Ritter Leito and Spears. Can't believe nobody from Milan mentioned Spears. Either Hoskins or Tackett at QB. Giarmo's son Kaltsas and Chad Baas would be 1st team defense. EM

I can only speak for SMCC because that is who I follow
I'm sure there could be more. Just my opinion please. like I said others are also deserving

2000 Sean Ray sr.
2001 Ryan Upchurch sr.
2002 Andy Flint jr.
2003 Steve Hudson sr. ALL STATE
2004 Nick Jordan Sr. ALL STATE
2005 Michael Rapp sr. ALL STATE
2006 Anthony Giarmo sr. ALL STATE
2007 Tayo Moss sr.
2008 Martellis Simon sr.
2009 Michael Pannone jr. ALL STATE

these are just the best players on each team SMCC has had. some may or may not be worthy of all decade team but I feel the all state players are.
hope this helps
