SMCC @ Livonia Clarenceville

SMCC (10-1) is coming off of a wild 44-40 playoff win over Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard while Clarenceville improved to 10-0 with a 31-22 win over Detroit University Prep. These two teams last met in the 2000 playoffs with the Trojans winning 25-19.

Offensively, Clarenceville is led by junior QB Jake Kubiak. Much of the offense will come from senior RB Jalen Bryant. The offensive line is led by seniors Drake Taylor and Ibn Ali.

Defensively, the Trojans give up a paltry 11 ppg. The defense is led by junior Santoy Reese and seniors Jawan Nelson and David Curvin.

SMCC will contimue with it's punishing running game. All three SMCC RB's put up gaudy numbers last week but it was the passing game that continues to surprise when needed.

Defensively, the Falcons keep giving up big numbers but do just enough to win. The rush defense has been solid during the playoffs after playing in the run happy Huron League while the pass defense is a continued work in progress.

Another tough game to figure out and it will most likely be high scoring. Clarenceville is undefeated but would have struggled to be .500 in the Huron League. Pick: SMCC 40 Clarenceville 32

Russians...What do you mean?

Chris, I wouldn't say that CC's passing defense in a work in progress. They have 11 interceptions in 11 games to go with only 4 passing td's allowed. The kid from AAGR had 100 yds and 2 tds on two basically hail mary type passses, and one was tipped right into the arms of the defender. I think for the most part youth and poor tackling at times mixed with some very good offenses have been responsable for the high numbers.

*With the exception of the Jefferson game, and we all know how that rivalry works! That's the best game Jefferson plays every year.

From a Milan Big Red, play hard and good luck!

The sophomores Kevin and Craig Couturier from Smcc are from Russia. So their nicknames are The Soviets or The Russians!

SMCC defense can not continue to give up big plays if they want to continue in the playoffs. Clarenceville has some athletes that can make big plays. Yes Bryant is good at both RB and WR. But they have other weapons as well. Offensively CC must control the ball, not get penalties, and no turnovers. So in conclusion they have to do what every team must do, take care of the ball, not make mistakes, and tackle. KISS principle.

Good Luck SMCC! Some of my favorite players to watch are graduating this year and I am not ready for it to end so win win win!

Good Luck Falcons!

I am a new SMCC fan and I don't know many of the kids so I apologize for not knowing the young mans name but #44 you are trip to watch. Your excitement on the field and the way you pump your team up after big plays is a joy to watch. The whole team is fun to watch but you defiantly know what team spirit is about. So Thank You and Good Luck SMCC!

I find it amazing that the SMCC squad has done so well. Individually none of these kids are D1 talent in football. But as a whole they are winning. I guess thats what counts. Thats why I laugh at all the predictions of the talent at SMCC and they will be great this year and next. Any local people that know these kids, know how to devise things to stop them, but apparently the playoff schools are not able to do this.
QB is a great athlete, but not the toughest and would be very different if the D gets to him a few times. The twins are athletic, but easily contained if you watch the film. The running game is containable in the middle when you bring up the LB's. A few tall defensive corners and the passing game is halted. Im no rocket scientist, but have been watching CC all year. Not sure what gives. I guess just having a few more kids that do their job, talented or not, will get it done.
Different schools have focused on a few of these things, but never all of them. We will see if any catch on. You have to watch more than one game of film.
I hope they continue to do well and represent the league, just surprised, because they are not that much better than any other team around here.
That rivalry game next year won't be the best game Jefferson plays, it will be a Jefferson victory though.

1-8

Thanks for the pointers

So let me get this straight in order to be a tough guy you need to be hit at all times. Just because you guys couldn't get to him. And let's see tall corners not 5'4 like yours I agree with. And Lbs that come up and make plays. And coaches need to watch more film. But you have seen us many times but must not have saw the airport and riverview games when the soft qb got hit every play. So maybe you should ask to be on staff. Or just keep coaching in the cyo. 1-8

Always has to be a backhanded compliment from someone. Give SMCC credit and root for them only makes the league look better. Good luck

Hey, just tell it like it is.
You did. Look what 1-8 did. Not a lot of difference between 8-1 and 1-8. Few things here and there. Thats my point.

I have family in Livonia. Still want to see SMCC win though.

@9:30 get comfortable because this is going to take a while......

First off, you are no Kirby Smart. I'm guessing by your lack of football knowledge that you dont know who that is so ill tell you, he is Alabama's defensive coordinator. Football is a game of schemes, if it were so easy to stop every aspect of every offense don't you think somebody other then yourself would have come up with it by now? "Move the line backers up" , wow, can't believe no coach has thought of that before! Ha, maybe because if you do that and have a missed tackle inside, lights out.

As for toughness in the QB, he gets tackled or hit on almost every play while carrying out fakes, it doesn't seem to bother him. Now, if toughness to people out there if a good old fashioned fist fight in the beaches....my man is a three sport star and has no time for your foolishness.

Lastly you did make one valid point, CC is not loaded with much more talent then anyone else. Watching CC and Jefferson this year I would give the athletic advantage to Jefferson just like every other year. So when the day comes that potential and apparently QB toughness are the determining factor on who wins football games you guys will be in great shape! Until then, at least now you won't have to sit around and wonder why CC wins with less talent then you or anyone else, it's called discipline and a great coach, you may have heard of the guy once or twice.

To 8:20 am

The player you are talking about #44 is Austin Corbin who is a senior this year. And i have to agree with you he is always pumped up and fun to watch. I hope he reads this or someone tell him to never loose his passion and energy! Go Green and Gold!

What fun would it be without ending the year with a little rivalry pot stirring.

My points are very basic, obviously there is much more to that.

We all know the reasons SMCC wins, we could argue that forever.
Some good, some bad.

Lastly, we all know that Giarmo would not have the success he has if he were at any other school.
Hands down. You make fun of the beaches, well I guarantee you Giarmo would have no better success with the same kids. Public school is reality. Dealing with reality is much tougher than having kids that have gone to private, sheltered school all their life. I will take our coaches over yours any day of the week.

Why is it so hard to just cheer SMCC on. Obviously they have some talented kids that work together as a team or they wouldnt be still playing while other teams seasons have been over for weeks. Our QB dosnt get sacked all that often because our line does its job. They play as a team and depend on each other maybe thats why they are still in the play offs.

You are all idiots.

Giarmo's wife teaches at jefferson, I think she has a an idea of the reality there. And I agree with the 2:04 poster, you are all idiots for saying such thinga about each other. Good luck to CC.
