Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Congrats to SMCC's Adam Kipf on his first varsity win as a head coach.

Huron looked very very good.

It was nice to see my Alma Mater Flat Rock get a win on Friday. Congrats to the players and coaches!

Did any starter play more than the 1st half for Riverview against Ecorse?

Obviously Milan missed arguably the best RB in the league against Marshall.

Sounds like a young Grosse Ile team let one get away from them on Friday.

Could be a long season at Airport, that score surprised me.

I'm not sure what to think about Jefferson, I know Ida is really good again.

The league went 4-4 in week 1 and so did I. That isn't very good.

How could Tecumseh give up that many points to SMCC? It isn't like they haven't seen that offense before.

Huron junior WR Andrew Miller looks like a Devin Collins clone. Expect a good year from him.

It was nice to see my fellow teammates; Dave Lambrix, Jim Hamilton and Todd Gillman from the 1983 Flat Rock football team at the Ram game Friday. By the way, we were 5-4 that season.

Big early season game down at Navarre Field as Riverview plays SMCC.

I'm pretty sure Milan will be an angry football team when they host Flat Rock this week.

Grosse Ile won't be an easy win for anyone this season, although they a probably a year away.

Sounds like Airport's line play needs to improve.

We will find out where Jefferson stands when they travel to the island on Thursday.

Did we really learn anything about the Huron League in week 1?

For all the Michigan fans out there, how often do B1G teams win on the road against the PAC 12?

For all you State fans out there, can you believe I had a UM buddy of mine bet me straight up $100 on the MSU @ Western game?

For all you Buckeye fans, take a shower for once would you please?

Unless they improve dramatically from Friday's performance I can't see Airport winning more than 2 or 3 games. The oline had little push, and the D missed some tackles. It doesn't get any easier this week when they go to Huron. EM

If Jefferson can get back some offense they had last year will be good....but like last year defense is bad...

Buff? I laughed out loud at that one! Breakfast was great. You should have came over and said hi.

Btw Big 10 teams rarely have success in Pac 12 country. But where there's a Harbaugh there's a way. EM

So God (bo) couldnt do it, but the khaki Messiah can ay?

I've seen some comments about Ida being really good this year and if you thought Jefferson lost to a good ida team you must be crazy. I may be wrong but from what I seen at that game I don't think Ida could beat any other team in the Huron league. it would be a blowout. That Jefferson team was just bad. No offensive line at all. the team consists of 5 players that actually put in work and wanna turn the program around, the rest seen like they don't care. its sad to see

Lol honestly it's a tough first game for Harbaugh for sure and I'm a realistic Michigan fan, probably 7 or 8 wins this year. But I know it won't take him long to get Michigan back to national prominence. EM

Offense has weapons wilkens failia Kull humphry..never took advantage of it...till they late .offense can be good same story no defense thought Pickens would be better....

Who

Adrian had 18 penalties. Numerous scoring drives were halted by them. The score could've been a lot worse

Chris Schultz said...

They are already back to national prominence (harbaugh hype) just not where it really matters

Anonymous said...

Don't worry little brother, he'll have it back to prominence where it matters very shortly. EM

#2 and #15 are good players for Airport. They need more players to step up. As an Adrian Fan, I really like these two teams playing every year

Chris Schultz said...

I hope so Big Sister!

I like your respect for the Huron league but Ida has made playoffs for 3 years straight. Not to mention their coach said he is coaching the best offensive line in his career

Anonymous said...

LOL. EM

Chris Schultz said...

Ida is pretty darn good. They have a lot back and a good solid veteran coach.

Anonymous said...

I would've but i didnt realize it was you until you were already leaving lol. And yes, buff, but then again, every time i have seen you, you've been wearing that bulky red wind breaker [at the games] ill say hi next time. :)

Hey Chris if your friend was smart he would've bet you for next weeks game when Oregon hangs half a hundred on your overrated defense.

SMCC defense will miss Shinevarre this year

Huron is not a team to take lightly anymore. Last years senior were the first flag football team when the huron little league football program started. And from my perspective this huron team is just gonna keep getting better. The JV team is looking strong from what im seeing. This is not a huron team that got lucky once! NO, this is a team that is here to stay at the top of the league. I will be shocked if they dont make the playoffs the next few years or so! But that is just my opinion.

Anonymous said...

I agree they will be competitive but Hartwick is a once in a lifetime player for Huron.

Anonymous said...

I don't know what Hartwick will do, but if he were 2 to 3 inches taller & 20 lbs heavier he would be a D1 player, my opinion. Still he can play somewhere.

If we Buckeyes reek of anything, it is the stench of an Undisputed National Championship. UM is 2-12 against OSU and MSU since 2008. Harbaugh will get the Wolverines winning again, but not until he stains his khakis for a few years more.

Anonymous said...

Why? Shinevarre is in his first year of high school football.

Anonymous said...

Excuse me if I'm a little late to the party, but why didn't Lindeman play vs. Marshall?

Anonymous said...

Jefferson will be ok. Got some kinks to work out. Team sport, all kids must step up. Coaches must make this happen or it will be their last season. Extremely disgruntled fans on the sideline. The Pickens era needs success now.

Foot injury. Should be good to go this week.

fiala for Jefferson might be best wr in league

Jefferson had 3 starters out with injuries..while they may not have won this game.I think it could have been alot closer.I think it's the begining of better things to come.ALWAYSABEARFAN..

honestly... the Jefferson fan base is the best

Anonymous said...

Ida had more injured player's out..out coached Pickens... They knew ida ran the ball..

Chris Schultz said...

Ida's coach would most likely outreach anyone in the Huron League. The guy has been around forever.

Anonymous said...

Trace has been released and will be back Friday. He has a sprain not a broken bone.

Anonymous said...

Ida was pretty good, but we knew what was coming. 90% run with an occasional pass. We stacked box. 4-4 defense. still couldn't stop the run. Fundamentals on tackling, over and over and over.

Need to quit focusing on favorites, takes whole team to win. Fan base is great. Fundraising support is great. We/kids deserve better. Can't keep hiring people from within the system, the system is not that good. Where do you think the current coaches learned from.

SMCC, Sanderson, Giarmo, Kipf. Sanderson was awesome, Giarmo learned from him and Kipf learned from both. No Brainer. Success.

There are 2 SMCC coaches out there willing to coach at Jefferson, will we hire them. ?? doubtful.

Hired a Monroe kid for baseball. best coach we got.

Chris Schultz said...

Parent credo "when we win it's the kids fault, when we lose it's the coach's fault". Wonder why anyone coaches anymore.

kw said...

@ 7:11 Why because people try to find something to stay positive about. Always Easy to laugh and kick a program or people when they are down. That's one game that we were all at. Yes we lost but we will still be in ball games and competitive this year. Let us know how Jefferson fans are then.

kw said...

Def unappreciated job no matter what when you are losing for sure. Sometimes you just have to maybe face the truth. I come from a diff school system but i know a lot of the coaches out there know the sports they are coaching. Just because a team doesn't win don't attack all coaches, that's just not right. In the grand scheme of things its just a game that is for sure

Anonymous said...

Don't agree coaches say that..that is coach speak...most fans want a well coached team parents get it that some teams are just bettet

Chris Schultz said...

I have seen and heard it too many times. I have numerous personal examples myself as a head coach and an assistant. I have seen it on the blog many times from 2009. Team wins, coach is winning with the talent we gave him, team loses, coach doesn't know what the heck he is doing.

My first year girls soccer program went 0-10 last season. Phone rang off the hook telling me how bad our coach was. I thought to myself, 18 year veteran math and science teacher with a PhD who played college soccer, played professionally in Europe and has coached in a state championship game. Hmmmmmmmm. Something isn't right here.

We all have a tendency to over estimate our own little Johnny. I did it with my kid, just like all parents do. You know what? It's okay, it's human nature. I'm just going to go to bat for coaches, nearly every time.

Anonymous said...

I wrote the 1:08 comment. I coach in the area. That's how it should be. If you continue to lose, your done. As a coach, if I continue to lose, I expect grief from parents and expect to be gone or even step down from coaching. 1 year, even 2 years of a poor record can be tolerated, you get into 3 and 4 years, any coach at any school should voluntarily go. This is 3rd year, so I will hold off any more negativity for awhile.

Bottom line is if you want to keep your job, you must succeed. Its not just coaching, Its real life. High school is a short 4 years for these young football players. For as hard of a sport football is, success is motivation. I have the utmost respect for any young man who puts himself through the rigorous daily life of football for a losing program. I truly hope the tide turns.

If you have those kind of soccer credentials, I hope things improved for you. First year is one thing, but hopefully soon after, your expertise kicked in.

Occasionally, there are very qualified coaches out there but have trouble relating to the kids or organizing a system. So sometimes credentials aren't all they are cracked up to be. No offense, hopefully that was not your situation.

I'm not even sure the Jefferson poster is saying that the team would do better if they rotated more players in. It might be an even worse message: "If we are going to lose anyway, let's at least see my kid and his buddies get in the game."

I sure hope that's not what they're saying down there on the beaches.

We hired him for basketball

He's a good kid. Very knowledgable for baseball. Didn't know he knew basketball too.

NICE !
