The Riverview Pirates finished 6-4 last season while qualifying for the playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons. Coach Derek McLaughlin enters his 2nd season at the helm of the Pirate program.
Riverview will be led on both sides of the ball by senior Tyler Chase. Chase established himself last season as one of the best linebackers in the league, as well as, a solid full back who could block and carry the ball. Look for him to clear holes this season for senior RB Eric Gant. Senior Wyatt Gardocki will anchor the offensive line for the Pirates.
On defense, the linebacking corp appears to be the strength of the defense with Chase and fellow senior Brian Gubbini leading the way. Others that figure to contribute on defense are seniors Robert Pinkava, Shane Sparks and Daniel Rice. Look for sophomore Nick Walsh to make a contribution somewhere on the defensive side of the ball.
Riverview appears to have a solid team with numerous players returning along with an 8-1 JV team from a year ago. Riverview opens at home this week against the Ecorse (3-6) Red Raiders. Prediction: 6-3
