Clinton @ SMCC

Clinton (9-0) defeated Whiteford last week 36-18 while SMCC (8-1) fell to Lansing Catholic Central 35-10. These two teams met last year with the Falcons prevailing 50-15. The Redskins have never beaten SMCC.

Clinton has only had one close game all season. That was week one 20-19 win over Manchester. Clinton is led by senior RB Matthew Sexton. Sexton is a burner who has rushed for over 1,500 yards and 25 TD's. He is joined in the backfield by fellow senior Noah Poore. Poore missed the first four games of the season and has rushed for 459 yards and 5 TD's the last five weeks. The defense is led by senior DE Ken Deshano and senior DT David Chantelois.

The SMCC offense is led by seniors Austin Burger and Justin Carrabino. Junior Kevin LaPrad will get some carries as well. Seniors Mitchell Poupard and Hunter Coombe anchor the offensive line. The defense is led by senior Riley Woolford and junior Justin LaPlante. Senior kicker Phillip Lehman has become a real weapon for the Falcons this season.

This should be a good game. I'm sure Clinton wished this game was being played at home. Last season was a blowout, but that shouldn't be the case this year. Pick: SMCC 40 Clinton 27

No chance for the Redskins. SMCC will have their way with them. I doubt they even score.

I would actually love to see Milan vs. Clinton this year. Think that'd be a fun game.

It doesn't matter. If SMCC plays the way they did against us, it will be a long day for the Redskins.

Sexton is tough. Hard to compare to #9 when he hasn't played anyone. Clinton is not bigger up front. I've watched plenty of film. Still should be a decent game.

SMCC by 3 touchdowns. EM

I feel bad for Clinton. A very nice team that could make a run if not for SMCC. They barly beat a very average Manchester team. Yes Average.... Manchester is 8-1 and struggled against the likes of Michigan Center and Grass Lake who are way down this year. Clinton will not be able to compete. Too many good players for SMCC.

Don't talk. Just play the game. How many times do we hear this team can't do that or this team will win it all. That's why you play the game. Should SMCC win, probably. But that is why they win some games, teams come in expecting to lose. If they would come in confident and not panic if a couple things go wrong they could compete. Lets see how the teams play. May the best team win.

Hey #9 Dad you have the classiest coaching staff and players of anyone we played this year. Good luck in the coming weeks. S.M.C.C. fan.

Ok. Clinton IS bigger up front. 235 across.
Honestly they r bigger and faster than CC. but we have seen this before

CC has seen Trenton. Riverview, Huron , Milan and LCC. All were bigger. Size does not matter at this point.

Anonymous said...

Obviously size mattered against LCC. You were blown out.

stosento said...

10:12am - LCC was just better than SMCC. Size != Victory.

LCC may very well win D5. That was the best team SMCC has played the last 2 years. EM

Anonymous said...

A little different situation. I don't think your QB is headed to the Big Ten Conference. But I respect that your are undefeated and will come to play.

Anonymous said...

Size had nothing to do with it at the line.

Anonymous said...

Usually in high school it is speed and skilled players.

Anonymous said...

How many times in the last 2 years has somebody came on this blog and said they are gonna take advantage of SMCC's lack of size? Gets old after awhile. EM

Heard Woolford hasnt practiced all week, did he get hurt Friday? That'd be a big blow to SMCC

Anonymous said...

Heard Woolford is out..

I'll tell you what, I think the league will be exposed as to how good it really was this year. I was at the LCC Gane this year and last, LCC wasn't nearly as good as they were last year and still put it on them. LCC will see Portland I believe in round 2, and I think they'll be out.

Anonymous said...

Yep. Good news for Clinton heard he's out this week maybe next.

Anonymous said...

If they get by this week that is. Theirs a few key players Smcc can't win without. He's one of them. Heard a few others are beat up too

SMCC wins. They control the ball. Have got everyone back HEALTHY including Woolford and Jakupco. Huron League rolls this week.

Anonymous said...

LCC has the same team as last year but a year older.

Anonymous said...

Who will expose SMCC 9:41? They will be favored in every game till at least the semi finals. So enlighten us, whose exposing SMCC? EM

SMCC is too slow....too small...no depth....blah blah blah. Shut up and play.

LCC was missing a couple of their OL, a LB that plays D1, and a RB that went D2. So they were missing some pieces. Still doesn't take away the win. SMCC is missing players from last year too.

Ok folks time to move on!

You know we keep saying Clinton's league is weak, but I have followed the HL for many years. Honestly I don't think the league was very top notch this year. Milan and Riverview were next best to SMCC and they were not that impressive. Really the scary thing about SMCC is when they get rolling on offense they are tough to stop. So can Clinton keep them from sustaining long drives is the question. If they do they may have a chance, if not them redskins will be a playoff casualty. I don't think Huron or Riverview win. Milan will win in a very weak district draw for D4. CC's district in D6 is better than there's.

What???????

Woolford is out.. Will not play! Big big blow..

I agree. League is not as good this year. It will be exposed. That's ok. No league, no team, is stellar, year in, year out. I enjoy the league and watch several games each season, across the board, the teams are not as good this year. SMCC was fortunate that most of the league was down or they would have had a much tougher season. Teams that are touted on this blog are not always that good.

SMCC and Milan will probably last a few weeks and that is respectable. SMCC's path is the Huron League West, so they should roll for a couple weeks. Milan is up against some newer programs, will probably roll too, until they get to the big boys.

Good Luck to all.

Exposed? So you expect the 3rd place team in the Huron League to beat the Co-Champ of the Downriver League? You also expect a team that tied for 4th in the Huron League to beat another Co-Champ of the Downriver League?

I would say that Huron, SMCC and GI are down from last season. Everyone else is better, except Airport who is probably the same.

7:27 is a hater

Anonymous said...

Nailed that one Chris

Anonymous said...

Exactly. It probably will not happen. We competed better with the Downriver League better last year than we will this year.

Biggest thing is SMCC is our league champ. They crushed many people in our league and they are not nearly as good as last year. Not a big deal, not arguing, it happens. Everything cycles, even the league as a whole. Sounds like some pretty good JV teams coming up, so perhaps the league will get strong again in the next few years.

7:27 is a straight up SMCC hater.

Chris,

Kind of unfair to mention SMCC and use the word down.

Hater?? Really. I say something realistic and not insulting in any way, I'm a hater. Ok, whatever. If you jump to being hated that easy, you must be used to it.

Huron league is great, fun football to watch. Just not as good of teams this year.
It is what it is.

I guess exposed was not a good word. The league has no real secrets to expose much of anything.

I think the Huron league has 3 teams in the playoffs that can win the region in each division they play in. I don't know if all will win their region, but I do know that they will give it one hell of a shot!
Maybe the league is a so called down a bit, but you still have to play, still have to go out and give it all you got. And for the 4 teams from the Huron league that are in the playoffs, go out tonight and make your school proud. Use all the haters negitive words to fuel your game. Good luck to all.

Like I said league is down compared to other years. One team left. The one that had the easiest district based on team schedules of opponents. Just facts, not hate. I'm a SMCC fan and facts are facts. It all came to light when we lost to a very average Clinton team that p,ads in a weak conference. That said Clinton played hard and deserved the win. Congrats to them. I hope Milan can continue to represent our league and carry the torch. Good Luck!

Anonymous said...

#9dad I know 3 HL teams who did not win a pre-district and you said regional..Bo knows football but idk bout you. Milan win when they should but equal or comparative you lose. Gaurantee that district next week..dbl dare ya..IJ

Anonymous said...

There is no question Milan got a great draw. You still have to play. Every team will lose to another team sooner or later that's not quite as good. The better team does not always win. Milan knows this with the 2 loses they have. Milan is better than Marshall, but lost, SMCC played better than we did, and beat us. No shame, just some days it's not your day. So the case last night. All good though. There is much respect from the whole league toward SMCC, they have a great program. I feel bad for all the huron teams that lost. Wanted our league to make a statement.

Dude I'm not a mind reader nor can I tell the future. But what I can tell you is all 4 Huron teams that made the playoffs went out Friday night and played to their best ability. 3 teams came up short, 1 did not. Can't ask for nothing else.
As for Milan against Denby, all I can say is Milan will come prepared, ready to play and they will do everything in their power to win that game. I personally think Milan will play for the Region, I have been wrong before and they may not. But they won't just lay down and quit.
So there, there is your double dare answer. Sorry your team lost. Maybe next year. Maybe.
