Huron League Power Rankings

Thought I would try something new. Feel free to chime in.

1) Grosse Ile 3-0, good offense, solid defense

2) Milan 3-0, home run threats strike again

3) SMCC 2-1, magical pants and steel toed shoes

4) Huron 2-1, scratching my head

5) Riverview 0-3, tough schedule

6) Jefferson 1-2, big win may save Bear's season

7) Flat Rock 1-2, schedule gets lighter soon

8) Airport 1-2, won't win many games turning the ball over

I like it! However I just don't see how an 0-3 team in Riverview isn't at the bottom of the rankings. Granted I've never seen them play but to me if you're winless you should be at the bottom! I do like these rankings, I'd like to see how they play out week to week!

Power rankings should show who LOOKS the best. I think a couple teams should be swapped.

Anonymous said...

Say you're ranked starting the season and You play Alabama Michigan and Notre Dame the first 3 and lose... Does that make you the worst in the league?

Anonymous said...

Fair assessment after 3 games

Anonymous said...

Looks about right at this time!!

Chris Schultz said...

That is exactly what I did. Please feel free to submit your power rankings. I would be interested in seeing opposing views.

This was my idea last week. Great call Chris. I think the rankings are spot on. Can you give me a shout out for the idea? Shout out to "Anonymous"!!!!

Rankings:
Grosse Ile
SMCC
Milan
Huron
Jefferson
Flat Rock
Airport
Riverview
In this order because I am just looking at the league contests. Grosse Ile is on top because they have taken care of business against Jefferson as well as Huron. SMCC following behind in second. I know they have played inferior opponents the last 2 weeks but the wins have been in impressive fashion. Milan comes in at 3rd because they have done one thing this season... Win. But they are in third rather than 1st or 2nd because who they have played and how they have looked. It seems like they are relying on linderman and Barnes to score more than the other team. Line doesn't look good and the defense is at the bottom half of the league.

I know this is off topic, but does someone have the boxscore from Milan's game lastnight... A link or stats would be appreciated, Thanks in advace!

1.Milan 2. SMCC 3. GI 4. Huron 5. Riverview 6. Jefferson 7. Flat Rock 8. Airport

I'm predicting an early upset next week. Flat Rock over GI. In fact, I see 3 losses in a row to Flat Rock, SMCC, and Milan. GI will be exposed next 3 weeks.

Anonymous said...

Chris, how come you don't have Jefferson at 5 or maybe even 4! They beat airport! And lost to a good Grosse Ile team -UncleOf38

My Power Rankings
1) SMCC
2)Grosse Ille
3)Huron
4)Milan
5) Riverview
6)Flat Rock
7)Airport
8)Jefferson

Anonymous said...

View just had its best outing so far this season (offensively at least). I could see them being 3-3 soon if they continue to improve offensively and defensively.

Anonymous said...

Why were the Devils without there starting QB?

Anonymous said...

Look people-Jefferson beat Airport and got destroyed by GI and Ida. Be realistic. Above Airport? Yes, because they won. Above anyone else? Why?? They proved nothing yet.

Anonymous said...

Airport has too much talent this year to be last in the league. I'm telling you a coaching change must be made if this continues. It's that bad......

Anonymous said...

Beating AP puts them at 7th

Anonymous said...

Putting Airport over Jefferson???

Anonymous said...

Didn't airport beat Dundee???

Anonymous said...

As an Smcc fan that doesn't even make sense 1:47 Jefferson just beat Airport

1:47 why do you have Jefferson below airport if they just beat them lolol but should be
1.) Smcc
2.) GI
3.) Milan
4.) Huron
5.) river view
6.) flat rock
7.) Jefferson
8.) airport

Chris Schultz said...

I have Jefferson at 7th because the loss to GI was in a game that was over after the 1st quarter.

Chris Schultz said...

Thank you anonymous for the great idea appreciate the thought

Chris Schultz said...

It was in the Monroe news print addition this morning. I say look at Max preps Milan always has their stats in there within a few days. It is usually a box score break down

Chris Schultz said...

Flat rock will not be GI next week.

Chris Schultz said...

I was wondering the same thing. His helmet was off the entire game he must've been hurt

Anonymous said...

FR over Jefferson is a bit much, dont ya think? Jefferson wins this week vs a team you had at 5-4 and FR gets dismantled by a team you had at 4-5

Anonymous said...

Then why have Milan over CC? That game was clearly over in the first quarter last week when Smcc played at the view. And it was not the same story this week when Milan hosted the view. Down multiple starters.

BigReds97 said...

Thanks Chris, I will give MaxPreps a look..

Anonymous said...

Because grosse ile can beat any team in the Huron league with Half of their starters in.

Milan played extremely poor against Flat Rock and they prob wouldn't of scored if Milan doesn't drop a pint giving them the ball on the 25. But Milan is extremely young and still learning. Right now SMCC is the team to beat and deserves to be number 1 no doubt about it.

Sprained something in his shoulder, should be back next week

Anonymous said...

Milan fan here. Let's face it, since we're at our games every Friday, it's hard to see many other teams. This early in the season, unless you have played a team, we are getting our info from results of games. There is so much more to a team than the final results. We bloviate every week like we are scouts. That's why Riverview and Flat Rock are better than their results. I know, because I've seen it with my eyes. It's fun to read though, keep it up scouts!

Anonymous said...

Smcc is right now tops. If you think different you don't know football. I hope they get knocked off but don't see it happening.

Anonymous said...

Yoda messes up the order of words AND the order of teams. AP just lost to Jefferson.

Next weeks predictions by Anonymous:
Milan over Jefferson
GI over FR
SMCC over Huron
RV over AP
MSU over ND
Colorado over UofM

Anonymous said...

Flat rock will win end up 6-3 when it's all said and done

Mark Majeske said...

Wasn't the final score 30-8? That's 3 touchdowns.

Anonymous said...

I realize it isn't that difficult to find out information about players on other teams, but don't go giving a heads up to the league about your team's deficiencies. If you're a player, your coach should slap you silly. A parent should know better. Why don't you screen shot a wrist coach/play book and post that too? Duh

Anonymous said...

Airport went from a dominating week 1 Win to falling to the league cellar.......ouch.

Anonymous said...

Flat rock better look for win number two before you think playoffs.

Anonymous said...

Someone is drinking heavily if they think FR is going 6-3 maybe 3-6. Airport will be 5-4 and should beat Riverview. They need to stop getting cute and run their wing T stuff

Anonymous said...

Sometimes still salty from that Friday night in Carleton...

Anonymous said...

Riverview has got better each week and the Milan game showed it. It will be a different story next year. This year they will beat Airport, Jefferson, Flatrock and be competitive with GI and HURON , Rouge will dominate Riverview.

1 SMCC
2 GI
3 MILAN
4 HURON
5 RIVERVIEW
6 AIRPORT
7 FLATROCK

It's really hard to know for sure how the season rankings will exactly end up. Power rankings give a general outlook of what is likely based on performance. Milan and SMCC have two common opponents. Milan combined score is 68-30. SMCC is 88-21. Both of SMCC games were away. Power rankings should have SMCC higher.

Anonymous said...

Lol, so airport goes 4 and 2 the rest of the way out! That's funny.

Anonymous said...

Must be a lions fan!

Chris Schultz said...

Unless you consider the fact that Milan is 3-0 and SMCC is 2-1. So indeed the power rankings should have the Big Reds higher!

Anonymous said...

Beating Dundee is like beating flat rock

Anonymous said...

Then throw in the fact that SMCC took on a top program rather than a Furman team !

Anonymous said...

And SMCC starters did not play fourth quarter of last two games.

Anonymous said...

Milan played Adrian first game. Wow, what a tough game. CC played a storied program first game. Comparing apples and eggs.

Anonymous said...

On Mlives website it says grosse ile is 2-1 and lost to Jefferson 42-6 the editor should be fired lolol

Milan over Jefferson
GI over Flat Rock
Riverview over Airport

Flat rock ahead of airport guys come on get serious all of you are just nuts chris same with you you never have liked airport you are a flat rock grad and you will try your best on this blog to bash airport get over it airport should never be behind flat rock

Anonymous said...

Jefferson over Milan in a close game!!

Anonymous said...

Jefferson will finish top 4 in league under CC, GI, Milan

Chris Schultz said...

These are the current power rankings. I think most would agree that I am pretty fair in my judgement.

Anonymous said...

Airport finished 1-8 last season and look to finish the same this season. Start winning and the opinion will be more favorable.

Anonymous said...

Lol

Anonymous said...

Who really cares about these power rankings. Just go and support your favorite team. SMCC is always the team to beat, GI and Milan are formidable although Milan's youth need to grow up fast as the schedule only gets tougher. Riverview is a physical team that will pound you. I think Flat Rock, with their two explosive players, just need to learn how to win. They certainly are a group that give great effort. It will pay off for them. Seems like Jefferson is playing well also. Not sure what to think about Huron and Airport....but I do know that they are not going to just lay down to anyone. The next couple of weeks should be really fun to watch.

Anonymous said...

And don't forget the rocket shoes

Anonymous said...

Great post totally agree!

Anonymous said...

Airport gave the game away.. Jefferson to their credit scores.they didn't over power jets jets 7beams ,8

Anonymous said...

I care about the power rankings. It's fun.

Anonymous said...

Chris I don't think you like to bash Airport. You've been pretty fair. I've said comments about Airport that Chris wouldn't post so if he really was an Airport hater he would've posted them. As far as Flat Rock needing to learn how to win games. It worries me that Airport's program has become a team that is getting use to losing. Hopefully I'm wrong. Jefferson has done nothing yet to deserve high rankings. They beat a team that turned the ball over 6 or 7 times. If GI would have turned the ball over 6 or 7 times Jefferson might have won that game as well.

Anonymous said...

SMCC should be number one with the super pants, dim lights and deflated balls.

Anonymous said...

You offer your opinion of Airports turnovers against Jefferson, as if Jefferson had nothing to do with them. Jefferson did indeed cause many of those. Since Airport did not buckle down and prevent any further turnovers, they definitely should be ranked lower. Also, it was your 3 best players that committed the turnovers. Not like it was some 2nd or 3rd string QB or RB. Airport had a bad day. It is what it is. For now they definitely should be rsnked below Jefferson. I believe Riverview should be last since they are 0-3. GI definitely #1.

Anonymous said...

I agree they should be over Airport but someone earlier said they should be 4th. Definitely don't agree with that as of now.

Anonymous said...

Airports best player didn't touch the ball. For some unknown reason.

Anonymous said...

He didn't touch the ball due to play calling ... They never once called his number. When the week before he averaged 7 yds a carry, I think Huron had a better defense a which could be more but he runs with protecting the ball as a priority. The needs to be a coaching change if that program wants to be major contenders again.

Anonymous said...

Airports best player didn't touch the ball? Who's this best player who didn't touch the ball? I'm interested who he is! Because everyone touched the ball who should have and they couldn't hold on to it!

Anonymous said...

Many turnovers Jefferson had nothing to do with them .should have had more point's

Anonymous said...

airport...bad play calling both sides of the ball. you cant blitz your best moving LB every down. they just ran away from what ever side he was on. up the middle he blitz right by the guy a bunch of times. he is a great talent with great vision and latteral movement. but blitzed to fail. qb good arm but has no touch. throws every pass like its a deep out. needs to get more air under the long ball. back is waaaay to slow hitting the hole. the line made some huge holes that closed when he got there. run your wing T and occasionally (5 times)throw it to your 6'4" TE. for the win...max props to jefferson on adjusting to running away from the blitz..everytime! airports guy in the press box needs to be fired and jeffersons guy in the press box needs a raise. heck i saw all this from the sidelines and endzone. they will hopefully adjust after viewing the film and will finish ahead of the Rock for sure....maybe!

Anonymous said...

Airports best player runs cross country.

Anonymous said...

It's logical that Airport's best player may be on JV. They are undefeated you know this year and last! :)

Anonymous said...

I'm glad someone else mentioned the blitzing by Airport's LB's. That strategy was a significant factor in a few big plays and two TD's when they played Huron. The blitzing LB simply ran himself out of the play and created a crease for a short touchdown and a big hole for a long TD.

Anonymous said...

Justin Goretski didn't get a single carry.

Anonymous said...

Agree ! He should get at least 10 carries a game!!

Anonymous said...

Like I said before! Asking to much out of him! Don't need highlight film plays every play. Play hard , do your job and the highlight plays will come!

Bold opinion sir

When you have all your backs fumbling the ball but one I would think you would give that one that hasn't fumbled the ball to maintain possession, Not Airport. I guarantee you if it was any other kids fumbling after the second time they would've been on the sideline and the ball would've been given to someone that would want to protect the ball.

Anonymous said...

I did notice that Goretski did not get the ball at all. I was at the Jet-Chief game
and he got the ball several times and did make an impact.

All teams need to play to win out there, without regard to relation, sponsors, etc.
I don't think that happens. Too much favoritism will cost you wins.

Not good to be an Airport coach right now.

Anonymous said...

Everybody thinks Airport only has two talented players, that because the other talented players don't get a chance. We wouldn't want anyone to out shine Airport two favorite stars now would we? It should be about winning games not stats. We need a coaching change.

CoachTom48160 said...

Again, most of us don't get to see our favorite team practice. Playing time and trust is earned in practice.

Some coaches spread the carries out more, and on those teams the third best back earns the third most carries. On other teams, coaches favor a more winner-take-all approach. On those teams, the third best back might just get special teams duty and that's it.

Who's the third best ball carrier in Milan? Any guesses? Are you telling me that those kids, while not as talented as Lindeman and Barnes, are not deserving of any carries and are not killing it in practices? For example, Brandon Lange is listed as a RB on the roster, but primarily plays defense. His kick return to open the second half may have been the key play in the Riverview game. Players have to keep preparing for their moment, their time to shine.

When a team is winning, there might be some grumbles about PT and touches, but these opinions tend to bubble to the surface moreso when a team is losing. Parents can be coach killers by giving toxic thoughts to their boys. Thoughts like, "We're losing anyway, why doesn't my kid get touches?" can really be harmful to the coach's season-long efforts.

If you are Mr. or Mrs. Mykidsnotgettingenoughplays and you think the coach is wrong, teach your kid to convince the coach that they are wrong--not through words but by that player's actions in every practice rep, in every play they do get in on, during chalk talks, in warmups, in the classroom, everywhere.

Anonymous said...

Let me say this . Everyone says fire the coach . Well there was one applicant. Chad Baas is a good guy. He Gives as much time as anyone for little pay. He is young and has made some mistakes. He genuinely cares for these fine young men. It's high school not college.

Airport dad

Anonymous said...

Chris I just posted defending baas . Could you not post that . One aplicant might be a bigger slap then what he's already getting.

Anonymous said...

So because he's a good guy and he genuinely cares about the boys Airport should keep him?? That's about one of the dumbest things I've heard. Please explain what he's done as a coach to keep his job? The offense isn't ran the way it should be. They have the ability to go to the playoffs this year. Wait, let me rephrase that. They had the ability to go to the playoffs this year and next year might even look brighter when you look at the Sophmore class. They will go 3-6 next year if Baas is still the coach.

Anonymous said...

You mean to tell me there was only 1 applicant for the head coaching position at Airport?? I don't know if I believe that.

Anonymous said...

It's not true at all! There were more. Not going to name names though

Anonymous said...

Alot of infighting in AP. Not a good sign.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like a lot of parents ticked off their kids aren't playing more. Memo: if your kid isn't playing, it's because he's not as good.

Anonymous said...

That isn't necessarily the case at Airport. There are very good players that don't get the carries. Obviously I'm not the first one to bring this up. The "program" is pretty much in shambles at this point.

Anonymous said...

Adrian just beat Ypsi. Lincoln. Guarantee Lincoln would destroy CC.

Anonymous said...

no they would get absolutely smoked by CC.....Coaching

Chris-you bringing up the point about Airport only being good when Redmond was there kind of worries me. I never looked at it like that until now. It's a very good point.

CoachTom48160 said...

I'll take your bet and put the smart money on SMCC, unless you are the HL Blog's Lincoln Railsplitter Insider and know something we don't.
