Adrian (5-4) is coming off of a 24-17 loss to Bay City John Glenn while Grosse Ile (8-1) beat Garden City 34-28. The Maples slipped into the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and have qualified for the playoffs 16 times. The Red Devils are back in the playoffs after their absence last season and are making their 11th appearance in the playoffs. These two teams have never met on the gridiron.
Adrian is led by head coach Scott Cripe and senior QB Tyler Shephard. Senior RB Caiden Welter is a capable back. Senior Ty Peck is one of the best receivers in the SEC while freshman Antwan Ficklen Jr. appears to be a star in the making. Defensively the Maples are giving up 19 ppg and are led by senior MLB Blake Thompson.
The Red Devils are led offensively by a host of seniors that includes QB Josh Sheppard, RB's Drew Vollmerhausen and Josh Moskall along with WR Justin Moores. Defensively Grosse Ile is led by one of the best two-way players in the Huron League in 3 year starter Dominic Trombley. Senior LB Holden Green has had a stellar season while playing along side of standout LB Aaron Blanzy.
These two teams are a mirror image of each other offensively and they have played a common opponent in the Milan Big Reds. The Maples fell in week 1 at Milan 27-13 while the Islanders fell on the turf at Saline in week 6 to Milan 27-6. GI is a senior laden team that can score in multiple ways and plays solid defense while Adrian is a balanced team, but while a solid team has beaten no team with a winning record.
