Huron League Power Rankings

Here are the latest power rankings based on last night's games and then the rest of the season. What say you?

1) Grosse Ile 6-1, possbile rematch in playoffs with Milan? (Call it the League Championship Game)

1) Milan 6-1, just a hiccup I'm sure.

3) Huron 5-2, Chiefs poised for second best season ever.

4) SMCC 4-3, no team in division 6 or 7 wants to play these guys in the postseason.

5) Jefferson 3-4, Bears looked like a MASH unit last night.

6) Riverview 2-5, eyeing the Colvin Cup.

7) Flat Rock 2-5, Rams disappoint Homecoming crowd.

8) Airport 1-6, I honestly don't know what to say.

Power rankings aren't standings. If Huron played SMCC 10 more times, SMCC wins all 10.

What's interesting is that the possible rematch of Milan and GI could be played at GI. The playoff points will be very close.

Gary Hauf said...

I will update the playoff points as they come out later today or tomorrow

Heard Soveys suspension will be lifted for the CC game? Any truth behind this?

Anonymous said...

Who does Milan play week 9?

Anonymous said...

Guys, it looks like the "bonus points" could end up being the difference between Milan & GI when everything shakes out.
Can you give us some insite on how these points are awarded or are they just "style points" ?

This is the first time I disagree with your power rankings. Milan beat Grosse Ile head to head, there for Milan should be rated ahead of them. A rematch in the playoffs would be great. The result will be the same.

Miss a website has them if you click on the school name.

Grosse Ile and Milan are both ranked number one I don't understand what you're talking about?

Anonymous said...

Gary....not sure why you need to wait.

Grosse Ile. Milan
Playoff points. 400. 410
Playoff Pt Ave. 57.143. 59.429
Bonus Pts 19. 25.571. (based on your strength of schedule and how you fair against them)
Total Playoff Pts. 85.00. 76.143

If GI and Milan win out, SMCC ends 5-4, and uncommon opponents Wins trends without lots of upsets, Milan will edge out GI in Total Playoff points by about 2.3 points.
Projecting Milan at 89.44 and GI at 87.11.
The biggest factor is the bonus points Milan gets for GI wins compared to the bonus points GI gets for SMCC wins.
This all may be mute as Milan looking like they may get sorted into D3 this year, while GI will be firmly D4.
We may not know until selection Sunday and how MHSAA decides to supplement the Divisions with Class A,B,C and D fillers.

Grosse Ile beat SMCC 28-0 Milan lost to CC. I think the rankings are fair.

I realize everyone in Milan woke up today to find out the world doesn't revolve around them. so some extra whining is expected on here.
But i think if you look a little closer you may notice that there is a #1 next to Milan & a #1 next to GI.
A new thing that may not of found its way out to corn country is the ALPHABET !
G comes before M in this new high tech world we live in.
Its crazy... for real... check it out.

Correct

Gary Hauf said...

It basically works out for 1 pt per win of the teams you beat. So if you beat a team who finishes with 6 wins. You get approximately 6 bonus points. Also, you get a small amount o points if you lose to a good team win wise. It works about to about .1 points per win. So if you lose to a team with 9 wins you get about 1 bonus point.

No way coach Pickens lets this happen.. This is how you teach young student athletes to do the right thing.. I will be very suprised if he sees the field again... Bear down..

Anonymous said...

Ann Arbor Huron. They have not won a game in 2 and a half years. Milan is at home the last 2 weeks.

Anonymous said...

But when you beat the other team you should be behind them in line!

Anonymous said...

What about head to head? I suppose that doesn't mean anything right?

Anonymous said...

Got 2 games gets to pick the games.

Ann Arbor Huron

Milan plays Ann Arbor Huron @ home week #9 I believe.

Gary Hauf said...

It's happening. You heard it here

Gary Hauf said...

Milan and GI will both be D3

Anonymous said...

I don't think the admintration will let that happen? I think it's out of Pickens hands.. Bear down..

Anonymous said...

I for one would love to see Milan and GI in a D3 district with Allen Park and Trenton. EM

Anonymous said...

Milan should be #1!!! Bottom line!!!

Anonymous said...

Wins by Airport, Riverview, Huron and SMCC this coming weekend would result in a 4-way Huron League Championship. That would be fun.

Gary
No way GI will be D3 will 653 enrollment.
Milan enrollment is 775.
There already 12 teams who qualify for playoffs between the in terms of enrollment.
Milan is currently in the bottom 5 or project D3 in terms of enrollment.
Only question is will Milan get bumped down to D4, and that won't be known until lat week of season and how MHSAA fills in the Divisions (equal amounts on Calss A,B, C and D schools with 5-4 records or more accurately teams with most a out of playoff points, typically in the 50 range).

Interesting: I've seen Allen park and trenton play this year. While I'm a huron league guy, I say Allen park has the best team of the four, then milan. Grosse ile vs trenton would be a toss up -- but I think trenton is more physical. I do believe Allen park would win over milan, they have the defensive speed to match up with Milan's talent.

Anonymous said...

I surmise that you are saying that because you beat GI. Understand that under the same theory, you should also be after SMCC which would make you 4th or lower. Give it up.

Anonymous said...

Bad decisions don't make bad kids.Fine young man who lead his team He made a poor choice but hands down best QB they'very had in yrs.Cant deny he helped get them where they are.

Anonymous said...

That would be crazy......a 4 way tie. But - it is the Huron League and any team could beat any team on any given night. That's why you have to show up and play. Last years game with Airport was dramatic, and Milan has some key players still battling some injuries....not counting the kids that were taken to the hospital on Friday. Other teams are hurting as well.....no excuses. Should be another epic week Huron League football week.

SMCC played a great game last night. I don't want to take anything away from them, so chill out fan base. But I believe SMCC at home, on homecoming, with their playoff life on the line, was everything. Also, Milan played a huge game the week before, and basically have a Huron League championship in the book. Very hard for young kids to get up week after week. That is probably why SMCC lost 3 games this year. They are obviously a much more talented team than their record, and are going to be a pain in the playoffs (if they get in). I believe if Milan played this game again next week at home, they would win. Having said all of this; I want to congratulate SMCC on the win, and commend their kids and coaches on their class during and after the game.

Anonymous said...

They had a league loss just as GI did.

Sending the message to all the student body that it is OK if you are an athlete.

Milan and GI in a D3 district seems like a stretch. However, if either of these teams draws River Rouge...it will be short run. Milan's team speed may match up best with them but no sure either of these teams would even make it close. I think there could be a number of 5-4 teams that make the playoffs. I think there are a number of Class B schools that will be moved up into D3 before Milan and GI. In my best guess.

#9 Dad said...

I kinda agree with OG, they are fair. In any poll, Milan at 6 and 0 was #1, GI was #2. Milan lost, which would move them down and the next one up. It makes sense. With that said, I still feel Milan is the best team in the league. Just like GI feels they are, and SMCC feels like they are. What we do know is that no one team is perfect. We just got to work harder, get better, and drive on.

#9 Dad said...

That's what we thought last year. Milan was 4.

Gary Hauf said...

You are correct. I meant D4. Sorry.

Gary Hauf said...

I hit the 3 button but meant to hit the 4. Milan and GI will both be in D4.

Gary Hauf said...

Your reasoning looks familiar. See my pregame prediction.

Gary Hauf said...

I meant both in D4. Fat fingered it.

Smcc Jefferson game of the week next week???

Anonymous said...

Lol! You were spot-on.

Anonymous said...

Why

Anonymous said...

Rumors seem to be true in Jefferson. All rules out the window when there's a rivalry game with CC. Who cares about life lessons and what is right. Winning and playoffs is everything, Right?

Bear Nation. CC stop whining and fear the bear!

Anonymous said...

I can assure you Smcc is not whining. And could care less to beat you with or without your delinquent non disciplined beachrat children. Nor do they fear the bear. Just focus on trying to cross the 50 this year guy. Smcc will be ready. 😘

Anonymous said...

Wow! I think you crossed the line there 12:40. I could say a lot about the kids at your school also. No class in that. See you Friday.

Anonymous said...

I highly doubt someone from Jefferson wrote that. Not sure on player status, but I assure you that we do care about life lessons and what is right. Proper policies are being followed.

Anonymous said...

I hope the beach rats kick the spoiled brats butts all the way back to the beach.

Classless trash talk from such high class people.Proud to be a beachrat.

Everyone at the SMCC Huron game expected SMCC to win running the ball on the extra point. Why SMCC attempted pass will never be understood. If you were at the game, you would remember.
